Cop29bikeride at COP29 - Week 1 Summary

Reaching the COP after 5 months riding across Europe

Our Cop29 Bike Ride team has reached Baku on 11 November 2024, and we were ready to start advocating for cycling policies after :

✅ 6500 kms
✅ 5 months
✅ Almost 200 cyclists and volunteers from 13 countries

Big thanks to @ali.abdo.ali @iamjohnbrooks @velosiped_telimi_seherle, Pasha and Jamshid for their incredible support on the finish line!!! 🙏

 Arriving at the COP29 11 November 2024

We met with a number of stakeholders to :
- Present our ten proposals on cycling policies
- Understand their present stance and commitments relative to urban cycling
- Plea for systematic integration of cycling in transport policies, whether at COP (NDCs) national or local level.

We were welcomed by European Investment Bank @eibinstitute VP Ambroise Fayolle after our epic 6,500km bike ride to COP29, with our cyclist-led bid for better bike infrastructure and policies to slash transport emissions and make our cities more sustainable. The EIB funds 40b of green projects per year and is a major player in financing the transition.

Welcomed by EIB Vice-President Fayolle

For our first side event, we met with several Egyptian government and company representatives (we are on the side of the picture of the side event) !

Attending our first side event.

Ready for caméra, we had several interviews with TV channels from all over the globe !

Constructive meeting with the world's largest social network for climate solutions: We Don't Have Time.

A rare privilege, resulting in great visibility : following discussions with the organizers, our bikes make it into the COP halls ! A prime spot to trigger interactions on the biking topic !

What do you think of this amazing place to park our bikes ?

On Sunday we attended a nice event in the green zone  kindly hosted by the COP-team. A fruitful collaboration with Sahar (@velosiped_telimi_seherle ) and the Azərbaycan Velosiped Federasıyası, the largest local cycling NGO (@azerbaijan_cycling_federation) This came in addition to a blue zone event on the CSO hub where we showcased the benefits of urban cycling to fight carbon emissions, in front of a global audience.

At the end of this very encouraging first week, we were even more motivated and ready to start week 2 of COP29 !

To be continued...
